HIPAA.
"HIPAA" is short for the "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996." HIPAA Administrative Simplification was made mandatory by the government for electronic data interchange (EDI). HIPAA has detailed requirements for privacy and security in health care. HIPPA is the law. Congress passed the legislation known as HIPAA on August 21, 1996.
